GENETIC GENERALIZED EPILEPSY WITH FEBRILE SEIZURES PLUS (GEFS+)
GEFS+ is is part of our Childhood Epilepsy Panel (NGS). Click here to access a complete list of the genes covered in this panel.
GEFS+ is a genetic epileptic condition associated with childhood febrile seizures outside the normal age range (FS+). Patients with GEFS+ can also go on to develop other forms of epilepsy.
GEFS+ comprises a highly heterogeneous spectrum of clinical manifestations and seizure types. These can range from milder conditions like febrile seizures that occur well beyond the usual age limit (FS+) and that tend to stop before reaching puberty, or evolve into more severe or rare conditions such as Dravet's or Doose syndrome. The patient's outlook and treatment depends to a great extent on the typology of the seizures.
