Genetic epilepsies are those in which the seizures are a direct result of a genetic defect, and not originated as a consequence of secondary abnormalities. In this cases, the core symptom of the disorder are recurrent unprovoked seizures.
Genetic Generalized Epilepsies (GGEs) belong to this group. The individuals affected with this condition present convulsive (grand mal) seizures.
